Hello, I'm Shanae Adams

I serve my community in a variety of ways. For that last 10 years, I have been a sexuality educator providing comprehensive sex-positive sexuality educations to communities domestic and abroad. I became a sex educator after joining Sexual Health Advocates Peer Education (SHAPE) at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where I received my Bachelor's in Interdisciplinary Studies. In SHAPE I learned the power of liberation in sexuality. Helping to make these topics less 'taboo" and attainable allowed my community to build empathy and celebrate the intersectionality each person has. Some of my favorite topics to talk about are kink, trauma, non-monogamy, and pleasure.

As an educator, I bring a willingness to learn, openness for the experiences of others, and a desire to provide resources. In my workshops, participants compliment on my ability to create a space where these topics can be discussed without judgment, fear, or shame.  Those feelings of safety lead some participants to bring their internal struggles and life difficulties for me to discuss more intimately.

These experiences propelled me to seek education in counseling to better hold space for and support people looking to understand and feel secure in themselves.

I am a graduate of Adams State University with a Masters in Clinical Counseling. My primary goal in school was to understand how to help humans understand themselves.

I draw most of my therapeutic services on modalities that are human-centered and indigenized. Such as, Integrative Gestalt and Somatic techniques that help clients connect to their emotions and find meaning in their sensations and realities. I view therapy as an intentional space to heal, grow, and learn. In many ways, therapy is like personalized education where I work with the client in collaboration to create the lesson plans and the goals. Some of my favorite clients to work with are those that have a vision of themselves that they are struggling to reach. There is a vulnerability in admitting that you need help and I value those clients that take that motivation to be active in their change.

Manifest, Affirm, Intent Therapeutic Services was created to harness that motivation and use it to achieve goals. Change is not easy, in fact, it can be terrifying and one of the most difficult things for a person to attempt to do but I believe we all have the power to manifest a reality in which we can survive. My role as a therapist is to affirm you along the journey. Are you ready to take that first step?
